Link Building Behavior: The Importance of Understanding its Relevance in 2018

Back when search engines were first created and SEO was a vaguer concept (such that link spam used to be a “valid” SEO tactic), relevancy was hard to come by. Search engine bots and spiders were laughably primitive, and finding exactly what you need still required asking people on forums for it instead of them sarcastically reply that you should “Google” it.

The concept of hiring link building companies to do your link building for you was also alien, plus even “Wikipedia” itself was laughably bare back then, since its pages contained more detail on pop culture series than actual useful and notable information. The Internet ten years ago or even fifteen years ago was a vastly different place; it’s become less of a Wild West and more of a stable civilization.

Fast forward to 2018. You can access anything through Google. You can meet with friends old and new through Facebook. You can update the world of every little happening of your life through Twitter. You can post photos of your food on Instagram.

In the Internet of today, how does link building fare?

You should establish relevance. Build your links the same way you build your brand, starting with posting your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media links. Here’s link building 101 for you: When building links in 2018 (as opposed to 1998), you don’t “share” or “exchange” links among other companies in a bid to make your website look popular (when all you’re doing is the Nineties equivalent of sub for sub on YouTube, wherein subscribers aren’t real subscribers but fellow channels exchanging subs to get subs).

You should go for relevance instead. As any link builder that’s worth its salt would recommend, a surefire way of building links that will bring success to your site is relevance. The more relevant the links, the more SEO juice you can get out of them. Using inbound links with sites that have nothing to do with your site will not give you the Google traffic increase you’re wishing for, essentially.

Relevance is Key

Relevance is everything to search engine algorithms these days. Why? Back in the Nineties, search engines were notoriously bad at knowing what you meant when you typed in search terms. It’s like how Google image search is at present (although even that algorithm is getting better at understanding what you meant when you typed “magic tricks” without ending up with some sort of not-safe-for-work image).

When building links, relevance should be kept in mind. You don’t put in links to magic tricks on a site about martial arts and vice-versa. You don’t see Facebook linking back to personal injury lawyers on its main page (it instead has them create fan pages on its servers or make others pay for its PPC advertising package). If you want to be more than a blip to Google, relevancy is important.

Patience Matters

Furthermore, it is also important to note that developing hyperlinks is not really easy and it would indeed definitely take time for it to work. Most would actually wonder why, despite of their impressive websites, they fail on having a higher page rank. Despite efforts, perhaps the reason why most of these websites fail on page ranking is because they have not availed the best link building services.

Since SEO is the main key element to increase the page ranking, one of the many ways to improve so is by building links to your website. In this way, there will be more possibilities for web users to visit your site through your created links.
